It’s a close call currently at the top of the leader board in the Longines World Thoroughbred Rankings. Only a pound separates the top two with American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile) shading it on 131 over Golden Horn (GB) (Cape Cross {Ire}) on 130. Triple Crown hero American Pharoah has been imperious in his races this season while the G1 Epsom Derby and G1 Eclipse winner will get the chance to improve on his already lofty rating when he tackles the G1 Juddmonte International S. at York next week, officially the world’s highest rated race. There is a five-pound break to the next best, with both Hong Kong’s Able Friend (Aus) (Shamardal) and America’s Shared Belief (Candy Ride {Arg}) tied on 125. Dual G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winning mare Treve (Fr) (Motivator {GB}) sits on 124, along with fellow French trained Solow (GB) (Singspiel {Ire}), seven pounds behind the world’s best. Recent GI Whitney S. winner Honor Code (A.P. Indy) has made his way up the ladder and sits on 123 along with The Grey Gatsby (Ire) (Mastercrafstman {Ire}), Hong Kong runner Designs On Rome (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}) and Australian sprinter Lankan Rupee (Aus) (Redoute’s Choice {Aus}). Flintshire (GB) (Dansili) from France and Britain’s Jack Hobbs (GB) (Halling) share the same rating while Ireland’s highest rated horse Free Eagle (Ire) (High Chaparral {Ire}) is yet another on 123, one pound ahead of his compatriot Gleneagles (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}).
